West Lafayette Intermediate School Counseling Mission Statement:
To provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program that promotes academic success, career development, and personal/social development that prepares ALL students to be well-rounded, innovative, creative, and adaptive citizens who will contribute at the highest level as productive members of society. We are professional school advocates and collaborate with parents and/or legal guardians, other educators, and the community to provide a support system for all WLIS students that helps them reach their full potential both academically, socially and emotionally. The school counseling program supports the mission of West Lafayette Intermediate School and West Lafayette Community School Corporation.

What Do School Counselors Do?
School counselors help children by…
* Act as an advocate for all students.
* Promote positive attitudes among students toward self, family, peers, and community.
* Provide support during personal crises.
* Develop and deliver classroom guidance lessons that teach such skills as healthy decision making, resolving conflicts, and respecting others.
* Work collaboratively with parents, teachers, and the community to identify and remove barriers to learning.
* Act as a member of problem solving teams and special education meetings to create interventions, differentiation strategies and accomodations to meet the needs of all learning abilities.
